At Dr Girish Juneja’s clinic, we will offer you the gastric balloon treatment if you meet the following criteria:

  • Your age is between 16-65
  • Your BMI is 27 or more
  • You have tried dieting and exercising with little success
  • You are not pregnant or planning for pregnancy
  • You are willing to follow a supervised professional program

Criteria according to Body Mass Index (BMI)

  • Mild obesity with a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2.
  • Moderate obesity cases with BMI between 30 – 35 kg/m2.
  • Severe obesity cases with a BMI between 35-40 kg/m2.

In addition, patients who are suffering from super obesity with a BMI greater than 50 kg/m2 are recommended to lose weight and improve their health before undergoing gastric surgery.

Possible contraindications

For a gastric balloon procedure, not all patients would be considered good candidates. Some absolute contraindications for the gastric balloon are as follows:

  • A large hiatal hernia
  • Bleeding lesion of the upper digestive tract.
  • Psychiatric diseases
  • Active alcoholism or drug addiction
